History

Mach Aviation was founded in 1987 by Vincenzo Romanella.

Once out of Alitalia, retired at the age of fifty-two, with thirty years of service in the wheels, brakes and landing gear departments, Romanella decides to found his first company, built in an innovative way, but on a solid foundation and know-how of excellence: the considerable all-round experience for the maintenance of aeronautical components gained in Alitalia.

Mach Aviation began its activity starting from the maintenance of business jets, aircraft that are small in terms of size, but of a high level in terms of quality, because they are dedicated to private transport.

Since then the company has grown in a healthy and constant way and the activity has evolved in parallel: the maintenance in the Business jet sector has been joined by that in the regional and commercial sectors, operating on wheels, brakes and landing gears for the major airlines. In its first thirty years of activity the company has carried out maintenance services for Alitalia, Air Europe, Air Sicilia, Blue Panorama, Wind Jet, until today, in which it is MRO of the main component manufacturers including Honeywell and Safran.

Over the years, Mach Aviation’s expertise has increased by developing other sectors of aeronautical maintenance such as starter generators, non-destructive testing, life jackets. Another important step was the opening of the metrological laboratory, first exclusively for aviation, later as a laboratory also open to checks and calibrations in the industrial sector.

Over time, the Organization has also specialized in the maintenance of military aircraft for the armed forces of the Italian State.

Mach Aviation has had a contract with Boeing and the 31st Stormo of the Air Force for more than 15 years, true Italian excellence, and follows maintenance for the Guardia di Finanza, Police, and Carabinieri.

The agreement reached with the companies that managed the aircraft of the Civil Protection first, and today of the Fire Brigade for the Canadair CL415 and 215, i.e. the aircraft used for extinguishing fires, was very important. Mach Aviation is now active on the Canadair / Fire Fighting Program for Italy and Spain and is working to be able to manage the Turkish and Greek fleets as well.

The company has continued its evolution in the sector, always guaranteeing work at the highest levels and at the forefront.

Mach Aviation has obtained D1 certifications, for non-destructive testing directly in line, and ratings for avionics maintenance, dedicated to on-board navigation instruments.
Vincenzo Romanella’s company, thanks to its structure, the quality of its work and its flexibility, managed to overcome the biggest crisis in the sector in 2011, maintaining unchanged orders and trust from its customers and builders.

In January 2017 Mach Aviation takes the most important step in its history: it participates in the European call for tenders from Honeywell for the maintenance of wheels and brakes for Ryanair, the largest company in Europe by number of aircraft and among the first in the world, and he wins it. Thus began a real company revolution that lasted two years.

Today Mach Aviation follows about 30% of the maintenance of the Irish low cost, according to Ryanair’s Italy program at Orio al Serio Airport, the base for the shelter of many Ryanair aircraft.

Mach Aviation is at the forefront not only as regards quality and technologies, but also for business management and the enhancement of human capital. The company has already invested a lot in training and courses for personnel: technique, safety, quality, according to the standards required in Europe.

For the future, expansions and improvements are foreseen without losing the main feature, i.e. the passion of a company born and raised as a family.

Today Mach Aviation is helmed by Danilo Romanella, Vincenzo’s son, who has already proven his worth as an entrepreneur by leading the company in its greatest adventure: the Honeywell tender and the assignment for Ryanair.

Our strengths are quality, timeliness and flexibility. We are ready and prepared to do even more, projected towards the future both at a technical and organizational level, and at a human resources management level. Mach Aviation has begun to explore the world and wants to grow, thanks to its 30 years of experience, the successful overcoming of the sector crisis and its customer portfolio in the civil and military aviation sector.
